ISLAMABAD – July 27: Two Pakistani athletes have reportedly gone missing—or possibly absconded—during the ongoing FISU World University Games 2025 in Germany, prompting serious concerns and official action from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).
Taking note of the incident, the PSB has established a three-member inquiry committee to thoroughly investigate the matter. The committee will be headed by Director PSB Lahore, Noor-us-Sabah, with Nasrullah Rana and Saif ur Rehman Rao as members. It has been instructed to submit a comprehensive report within 15 days.
According to the PSB spokesperson, the investigation will examine the circumstances under which the athletes went missing and identify any lapses or responsible parties. The probe will also determine whether all team officials were appointed based on proper selection procedures and existing regulations.
A notification has been issued, revealing several irregularities in the Pakistani contingent’s participation. It has emerged that apart from one coach, all team officials were university or HEC officers, raising questions about transparency in the selection process.
The HEC (Higher Education Commission) confirmed that two student-athletes were reported missing during the competition. Furthermore, the women’s 4×400 relay team was declared ineligible to participate, and a judo athlete competed without a coach or proper uniform, highlighting further mismanagement.
The committee is also tasked with finding out why the judo athlete was not provided with standard competition attire and why she participated without coaching supervision.
The inquiry committee was established with the formal approval of the Director General of the PSB, reflecting the seriousness of the issue and the need for accountability.
