ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday that the federal government will conduct an investigation into the matter of 'suspicious letters' received by judges.
These letters, containing threatening messages and suspicious powder, have been received by four Supreme Court judges, including Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, eight judges of the Islamabad High Court, and four judges of the Lahore High Court, according to sources.
During a federal cabinet meeting held in Islamabad today, Prime Minister Sharif assured that the issue will be approached with utmost responsibility and emphasized the importance of keeping politics out of the matter.
He recalled the formation of an inquiry commission, initiated with the consent of former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, to address concerns raised by six judges of the Islamabad High Court.
However, he noted that the former chief justice later recused himself from leading the inquiry commission. Subsequently, the Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of the issue.
Referring to his recent meetings with various ministries, the Prime Minister stated his decision to conduct a sectoral review of these ministries to address their challenges, aiming to bolster the economy towards self-reliance.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed contentment with the gradual decrease in inflation and outlined ongoing efforts to curb inflation, unemployment, and poverty.
Moreover, he expressed optimism regarding the release of the last tranche of $1.1 billion by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the standby agreement this month, pending approval from its board.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb's visit to Washington for discussions with the IMF regarding a new program was also mentioned.
