The Sindh Home Department has enforced Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) at educational institutions hosting the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) today (Sunday). A notification has been issued to ensure security and maintain order during the test.
The health department requested enhanced security measures at seven MDCAT centres across Sindh. These include the University of Karachi, NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, Public Health School in Hyderabad, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology in Jamshoro, Quaid-e-Azam University of Engineering, Science & Technology in Shaheed Benazirabad, Police Training School in Larkana, and IBA Public School in Sukkur.
The notification highlighted the need for a peaceful and transparent examination process. It declared the premises of these centres as restricted areas for the general public. Only candidates with valid admit cards and staff on duty are allowed access.
The government has also banned mobile phones, digital devices, ladies’ purses, and reading material within the premises. To prevent disruptions, general traffic movement near the centres is prohibited during test hours.
Additionally, under Section 195(i)(a) of the CrPC, concerned station house officers have been authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code against individuals violating Section 144.
These measures aim to ensure the sanctity of the examination and provide a secure environment for candidates appearing for the MDCAT.
