The Sindh government has announced August 9, as a public holiday across the province to mark the 282nd annual Urs of the great Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
Sindh's Secretary for Culture, Muhammad Khan Kloro, said that the three-day Urs celebrations will begin on Saturday. He mentioned that preparations are almost complete, and efforts are being made to ensure the smooth and successful organization of this spiritual and cultural event.
The Minister for Culture has officially invited the Governor of Sindh to inaugurate the Urs celebrations, which are expected to draw thousands of devotees, scholars, and admirers of Bhittai from all over Pakistan.
To keep the event peaceful, all relevant departments have been placed on high alert. The Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad has also imposed a ban on carrying weapons during the Urs to create a safe environment for all attendees. The provincial government has issued an official notification declaring August 9 as a public holiday.
The Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, held every year at his shrine in Bhit Shah, is one of Sindh’s most important spiritual events. It includes Sufi music, poetry readings, literary sessions, and prayers, all honoring the message of love, peace, and tolerance shared by the famous mystic poet.
