ISLAMABAD/TEHRAN: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Iran on a one-day official visit to attend the funeral ceremonies of the country’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, marking Pakistan’s high-level diplomatic participation in the mourning events.
He is accompanied by a senior delegation comprising National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other senior officials.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir also reached Tehran to attend the funeral, reflecting Pakistan’s military-level representation at the ceremony.

Upon arrival in the Iranian capital, he was received by Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other senior officials. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the airport to welcome the visiting delegation.

Multiple Pakistani delegations are attending the funeral rites in Tehran, alongside representatives from various countries paying tribute to the late Iranian leader.
The presence of both political and military leadership underscores Pakistan’s official representation at the event.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will convey condolences to the Iranian leadership and bereaved families on behalf of the government and people of Pakistan.
He will also reaffirm Pakistan’s “complete solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran in this hour of grief.”
Following the Tehran engagements, the Prime Minister is scheduled to travel to Istanbul for a bilateral visit to Türkiye, where he will hold talks aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
