ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's advanced communication satellite, PAKSAT MM1, has been successfully launched into space from China's Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC). This marks Islamabad's second satellite to be sent into orbit. The satellite's launch is a significant milestone in Pakistan's space endeavors and is expected to play a crucial role in advancing the country's digital infrastructure.
PAKSAT MM1, which will take approximately four days to reach its designated orbit, is equipped with advanced communication technologies. It will provide services in multiple frequency bands, including C, Ku, Ka, and SBAS services in L Band. This multi-mission satellite is designed to meet the growing demands of Pakistan's telecom sector, particularly in delivering high-speed internet and seamless connectivity to remote areas. The satellite's capabilities are expected to contribute to the establishment of a sophisticated communication network in the country.
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) highlighted that PAKSAT MM1 would play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan. The satellite's high-power communication services are anticipated to enhance the lives of Pakistani citizens by promoting economic activities, e-commerce, and e-governance.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on the satellite's launch and expressed optimism about its potential impact on internet connectivity across Pakistan. He emphasized that PAKSAT MM1 would help provide the fastest internet facilities throughout the country, significantly benefiting various sectors and improving overall connectivity.
Prior to PAKSAT MM1, Pakistan achieved another significant milestone with its historic lunar mission, ICUBE-Q, launched on May 3 from Hainan, China. The ICUBE-Qamar mission marked Pakistan's first lunar exploration effort. The satellite, developed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in collaboration with China’s Shanghai University SJTU and SUPARCO, successfully transmitted its inaugural images from lunar orbit, offering unique insights into the moon’s surface.
These advancements underscore Pakistan's growing capabilities in space technology and its commitment to leveraging these technologies for national development and global scientific contributions.
