Islamabad will host a two-day International Conference on Girls' Education in Muslim Communities on January 11-12, 2025, at the Jinnah Convention Centre.
According to an anonymous Foreign Office official, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the conference, which aims to tackle the challenges of girls' education within Muslim communities.
Jointly organized by the Muslim World League (Rābitah al-‘Ālam al-Islāmī) and the Prime Minister's office, the event is expected to welcome over 50 delegations, including education ministers from more than 30 countries.
Diplomatic sources revealed that the conference's main goal is to build a collaborative network among governments, Islamic organizations, and civil society to advance girls' education across Muslim communities.
Delegations from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and other Muslim nations will participate.
The conference will focus on developing actionable strategies to overcome barriers and improve access to quality education for girls in these communities.
An inter-ministerial committee, led by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, recently held a preparatory meeting.
The meeting included Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Federal Education Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Youth Affairs Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed, as well as the Foreign Secretary and Secretary of Education. They discussed key aspects of the event's agenda and logistics.
This important conference highlights Pakistan's commitment to addressing critical education issues, particularly for girls in Muslim communities.
