Amid growing tensions between Pakistan and India following the deadly attack on tourists in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar gave a national security briefing to senior political leaders from various parties.
During the session, Lt Gen Chaudhry stated that if aggression is imposed on Pakistan, the armed forces are fully prepared to give a strong response, according to sources.
The two nuclear-armed countries have been facing increased strain since the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK, where at least 26 tourists lost their lives.
India accused Pakistan of involvement without presenting any evidence and responded by taking a series of measures to reduce diplomatic and bilateral ties. These included suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, cancelling visas issued to Pakistanis, and closing the Wagah-Attari border crossing.
In response, Pakistan expelled Indian diplomats and military officials, revoked visas for Indian nationals—except Sikh pilgrims—and shut down the border crossing from its side. Pakistan denied any role in the attack and expressed willingness to participate in a transparent and credible investigation.
Today’s briefing focused on Pakistan’s security posture in light of India’s accusations following the Pahalgam incident. A large number of political figures attended the meeting. These included PML-N leaders Khurram Dastgir and Abid Sher Ali, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior Pervez Khattak, and MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar.
Others in attendance were JUI-F’s Noor Alam Khan, Senator Abdul Shakoor, BAP’s Senator Abdul Qadir, and Sindh ministers Nasir Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Memon, and Saeed Ghani, along with PML-N’s Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha.
DG ISPR informed the attendees about the Pakistan Army’s preparedness, emphasizing that although Pakistan seeks peace and regional stability, the military is ready to respond firmly if provoked.
Sources also said that Information Minister Ataullah Tarar updated political leaders on the government’s diplomatic steps and Pakistan’s official position on the international stage.
