Islamabad, September 8: Heavy rains and floods continue to devastate Pakistan, with the death toll climbing to 922, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
In its latest report, NDMA confirmed that 12 more people died and 3 were injured in the past 24 hours. This brings the total number of deaths since June 26 to 922, while the number of injured has risen to 1,047.
The report said that 10 of the deaths occurred in Punjab and 2 in Sindh, while all 3 newly injured victims were also from Sindh.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains the hardest-hit province, with 544 lives lost so far. Punjab has reported 244 deaths, Sindh 60, Balochistan 26, Gilgit-Baltistan 41, Azad Kashmir 38, and Islamabad 9. The district of Buner in KP recorded the highest death toll of 256, while Lahore in Punjab reported 38 deaths, making it the worst-hit city in the province.
NDMA also reported that 7,851 houses have been damaged and more than 6,184 livestock have perished during the ongoing monsoon season. Injuries include 654 in Punjab, 218 in KP, 81 in Sindh, 52 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 34 in Azad Kashmir, 5 in Balochistan, and 3 in Islamabad.
The authority has urged people to stay cautious, follow safety guidelines, and cooperate with local administrations and rescue teams to prevent further loss of life and property.
