Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is set to convene today amid heightened tension and strict entry restrictions for guests. The session is highly anticipated as 25 members elected on reserved seats are expected to take their oath, marking a significant step in the assembly's proceedings.
Among the lawmakers expected to swear in are seven members each from PML-N and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), four representatives from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), two members from the Awami National Party (ANP), and a female parliamentarian from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has expressed reservations about the oath-taking process. He indicated that, given the current political climate, it may not be feasible for the reserved seat members to take their oaths today.
The governor suggested that the assembly might be adjourned after a quorum is established, and the oath ceremony could be postponed.
Kundi assured that the Senate elections would proceed as scheduled, either on Monday or Tuesday, regardless of the oath status.
He also hinted at possible legal avenues, stating that if the oath on reserved seats is not administered today, affected members might approach the courts, which could direct either himself or the Assembly Speaker to administer the oath.
