The Khunjerab border between Pakistan and China has reopened, giving a fresh boost to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). In a virtual meeting, top officials from both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation for shared development.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan called it a historic day for the region and for Pakistan, saying that keeping the border open all year will be a major step forward for the economy.
Xinjiang’s Governor Erkin Tuniyaz added that the friendship between Pakistan and China has entered a new phase and both sides will continue to work together for peace and progress. The Chinese side also shared a video explaining customs clearance procedures at the border.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with a delegation from the Chinese space tech firm Galaxy Space, led by Chairman Xu Ming. He said Pakistan is eager to expand cooperation with China in space technology, satellites, telecom, and satellite internet.
The Chinese team expressed strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s space industry and working with local organizations like SUPARCO and telecom companies. They also appreciated the hospitality and said their discussions with Pakistani officials had been productive.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahad Khan Cheema and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Advisor Dr. Tauqir Shah, and other senior government officials.
