KARACHI: Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, has asked the Sindh Home Department to temporarily suspend mobile phone signals in certain parts of the city during the 12 Rabi-ul-Awal processions.
He explained that the suspension will only affect the main procession routes, not the entire city, and will remain in place at 23 points across Karachi’s East, West, and South zones. The central procession, which will start from the Tower and end at Nishtar Park, will also see restricted coverage along its path.
The AIG said these steps are important for public safety during the religious gatherings, but efforts will be made to reduce inconvenience for citizens. Along with this, the city has also imposed a two-day ban on pillion riding to help maintain law and order.
12 Rabi-ul-Awal, also known as Eid Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W), marks the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W). On this day, mosques, streets, and homes are decorated with lights, while people take part in processions, naat recitations, and special prayers.
Across Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, the day is observed with devotion, charity, and gatherings where scholars speak about the Prophet’s (S.A.W) life and teachings of peace, kindness, and compassion.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has declared September 5 and 6 (Friday and Saturday) as public holidays for the 1500th celebration of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (S.A.W). This year, the day will also coincide with Defence Day on September 6. All provincial government offices, institutions, and educational centers will remain closed.
