Lahore: A serious train accident took place near Kala Shah Kaku on Thursday when three coaches of the Islamabad Express derailed, injuring at least 25 passengers. The train was on its way from Lahore to Rawalpindi.
The incident happened close to the Ittehad Chemical Factory. Luckily, there have been no reports of any deaths. Rescue teams and railway staff quickly reached the site and began helping the trapped passengers.
One of the injured passengers, 55-year-old Mujahid Hussain, was rescued from a damaged bogie. Cutting tools were used to free the wounded from the crushed coaches. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing inside all the affected bogies.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the incident and directed rescue teams to speed up relief efforts. He also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.
Railway Minister Hanif Abbasi told Bol News that the Punjab government is fully supporting the rescue work and that all efforts are being made to complete the operation within a few hours. He said the top priority is to get the injured to hospitals as soon as possible.
According to a Rescue Punjab spokesperson, they received the emergency call at 7:30 a.m. Six emergency vehicles and 25 rescuers were immediately sent to the scene. Most passengers suffered minor injuries and bruises.
