The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated a process to restore mobile SIMs blocked due to non-filing of income tax returns. Once non-filers submit their tax returns, they can have their SIMs reactivated through two methods.
The first and easier method involves contacting the FBR helpline to inform them that the tax return has been filed.
After verification, the blocked SIM will be restored within 48 hours. Alternatively, individuals can visit the concerned Commissioner of Inland Revenue of the Regional Tax Office.
Here, they need to provide proof of filing their tax return to get their SIMs reinstated.
According to the FBR, blocked SIMs will remain inactive until the FBR or the relevant Commissioner of Inland Revenue restores them. This is enforced under Section 114B of the Income Tax Ordinance of 2001.
The law empowers the FBR or the Commissioner to order the restoration of mobile SIMs, as well as connections for electricity and gas, upon verification that the tax return has been filed or that the individual was not required to file a return under the ordinance.
In summary, non-filers who have now submitted their tax returns can regain access to their mobile services by either contacting the FBR helpline or visiting their local tax office for verification.
