Pakistan has been ranked 198th in global internet speed rankings, as reported by the World Population Review.
The report highlights that Pakistan falls behind countries such as Palestine, Bhutan, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Libya in terms of internet speed.
The average mobile internet download speed in Pakistan is recorded at 19.59 Mbps, while broadband internet speed averages 15.52 Mbps.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) tops the global rankings for both mobile and broadband internet speeds, with Singapore ranking second in mobile internet and Qatar in broadband. Meanwhile, Hong Kong and Chile hold the third and fourth spots for mobile internet speed, respectively.
The report suggests that technological advancements could lead to improvements in internet speeds in the future.
Sajjad Mustafa Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), has assured that the ongoing internet speed issues are likely to be resolved within three months. However, concerns remain about potential connectivity issues arising from the implementation of a monitoring firewall.
He noted, “If messages are sent via WhatsApp but images fail to transmit, it may indicate surveillance activity.”
Users across Pakistan have reported sporadic internet outages and sluggish speeds, hampering their ability to browse, download, and share media effectively.
Both Wi-Fi and mobile data services are reportedly experiencing significant slowdowns, making it particularly challenging for users to send or receive media files, including images, videos, and voice notes, on platforms like WhatsApp.
