Sui Northern and Sui Southern Gas Companies have submitted requests for substantial tariff increases for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, which will result in a gas price hike in Pakistan.
Sui Northern has proposed an increase of Rs. 735.59 per MMBTU, while Sui Southern has requested a Rs. 2443 per MMBTU hike, including adjustments for previous shortfalls.
Gas prices in Pakistan are set to rise as Sui Northern and Sui Southern companies report financial needs of Rs. 700 billion and Rs. 44 billion respectively. This increase will affect households and industries nationwide, adding to living and production costs.
Public hearings on the proposed price hikes will take place in Lahore and Peshawar on April 18 and 28, and in Karachi and Quetta on April 21 and 23. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has already approved a major tariff increase—25.78% for Sindh and Balochistan, and 8.71% for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad.
OGRA has also raised LPG prices for April 2025, with an increase of Rs. 0.54 per kg, making a standard 11.8 kg domestic cylinder now cost Rs. 2,930.71.
However, some relief may come in the form of a drop in petrol prices, expected to decrease by Rs. 12 per liter from April 16 due to falling global crude oil rates.
Consumers are encouraged to stay updated on further regulatory changes and any possible relief measures. Meanwhile, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has also announced new gas supply timings and load-shedding schedules post-Ramadan 2025 to maintain better pressure for users.
The updated schedule was designed to help consumers effectively plan their cooking and daily activities.
Residents of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and surrounding areas experienced gas load-shedding. SNGPL officials stated that after Ramadan, gas was only available during designated mealtimes.
