Former Law Minister and renowned lawyer Khalid Anwar has passed away in Karachi at the age of 87. Born on November 4, 1938, in Delhi, he pursued his education at the University of Punjab, earning BSc (Honors) and LLB degrees, before furthering his studies at the University of Cambridge in the UK.
Khalid Anwar began his legal career in 1962 as an Advocate of the High Court. He later served as Pakistan’s Law Minister from 1997 to 1999 during Nawaz Sharif’s government and was also a Senator for six years.
During his tenure, he played a key role in introducing important legal reforms in the country’s judicial system.
His grandson, Yousuf Khalid Anwar, described him as a man of great stature.
His daughter, Ayesha Siddiqui, shared that he was an exceptional person in every role he played—whether as a husband, father, uncle, or grandfather. She expressed deep sorrow over his passing but also great pride in having had the honor of calling him ‘Abu.’
