In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the foundation stone has been laid for the world’s tallest metro station, which will stand 74 meters above ground and is expected to be completed by 2029.
According to Emirati media, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, inaugurated the project and approved the design of the EMAAR Properties station, which will be part of the Dubai Metro's new Blue Line.
The Blue Line is scheduled to launch on September 9, 2029, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro. The line will span 130 kilometers and connect nine key areas of Dubai, offering improved transport accessibility to both residents and commuters.
The Blue Line will feature 14 stations, five of which will be underground. Major interchange stations will include Al Jaddaf, Al Rashidiya, and International City. The line will serve areas such as Mirdif, Al Warqaa, International City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, International Academic City, Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Ras Al Khor Industrial Area.
A notable feature of the Blue Line will be a 1.3-kilometer-long bridge over Dubai Creek, marking the first metro track to cross the creek. The entire Blue Line mega project is estimated to cost AED 56 billion, which is over 4.3 trillion Pakistani rupees. The Dubai Metro already serves millions through its existing Red and Green lines, and authorities have pledged that the Blue Line stations will be even more advanced.
The tallest station, covering an area of approximately 11,000 square meters, is being designed to seamlessly integrate with the city’s urban environment and embody the vision of "Dubai: Gateway to the Future." It is planned to accommodate up to 160,000 passengers daily, with projected daily ridership exceeding 70,000 by 2040.
The station’s design, inspired by the concept of a crossing gateway, is being crafted by a renowned American architectural firm known for designing landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, the Olympic Tower in New York, and the Willis (Sears) Tower in Chicago.
