QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court has suspended an FIR filed against Mehmood Khan Achakzai, the Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.
The case was represented by advocates Kamran Murtaza, Habibullah Nasir and Wager Lawyers.
Achakzai was charged under sections 448 (house trespass) and 447 (criminal trespass) following an incident on March 11 at the Gwalmandi police station.
Local administration officials and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) accused Achakzai of illegally occupying government land and interfering with official duties after his security guard allegedly resisted a raid on a plot opposite Achakzai’s residence. The guard, who was arrested, was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
An arrest warrant was issued after Achakzai failed to appear in court on April 22. The judicial magistrate directed the police to present Achakzai in court on April 27. However, in today's hearing, Judge Kamran Baloch suspended the arrest warrant and adjourned the case until May 31.
Achakzai’s defence counsel, Advocate Qari Rehmatullah, argued that the charges were malicious and noted that Achakzai was not present in Quetta during the raid. Rehmatullah suggested that a relative or another family member might have occupied the land, as Achakzai spends most of his time in Islamabad for political activities.
Rehmatullah, who is also the president of the Quetta Bar Association, mentioned that Achakzai plans to approach the Balochistan High Court on Monday to address the FIR.
