MAKKAH: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has reaffirmed that possession of the "Nusuk" smart card for conforming pilgrims for the year 1445-2024 is obligatory for all individuals seeking entry to the holy sites.
This requirement applies to pilgrims, and organizers managing pilgrims' and workers' affairs, with no exceptions. Violators will face penalties similar to those for breaching Hajj regulations and instructions.
In a series of announcements on its Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages, the Ministry emphasized that the "Nusuk" smart card distinguishes between conforming and non-conforming pilgrims. It underscored that individuals without the card will be denied access to the holy sites.
Last week, the Ministry unveiled the "Nusuk" smart card, available in two paper versions for pilgrims to carry and a digital version accessible by scanning the code on the paper card using a smartphone camera.
Highlighting the card's features, the Ministry stated that it facilitates pilgrims' movements and provides alerts regarding departure dates. Additionally, pilgrims can utilize the card to evaluate services and lodge complaints.
The Ministry also reiterated its warning against falling prey to fraudulent Hajj campaigns advertised on social media platforms in various countries. It emphasized that undertaking Hajj is only permissible through obtaining a Hajj visa issued by relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in coordination with Hajj Affairs offices in respective countries, or via the "Nusuk Hajj" platform for nations lacking Hajj missions.
