KARACHI: A mother and her son lost their lives in a traffic accident near Landhi Hospital Chowrangi on Monday after their motorcycle was hit by a water tanker.
According to initial reports, a mother and her son lost their lives in the accident, while another son sustained injuries. Rescue officials confirmed that three people were riding on the motorcycle at the time of the crash.
According to police, the victims were traveling on a motorcycle along with another son when a water tanker struck their bike.
The second son, identified as Hasnain, sustained minor injuries and his statement has been recorded.
Rescue officials said the deceased were identified as 40-year-old Raeesa and her son Arman.
The both mother and son were on their way to work at a factory when the accident occurred.
Police further stated that the water tanker driver fled the scene, though the vehicle has been taken into custody. The authorities have launched efforts to trace and arrest the driver.
Rescue officials noted that this latest incident has raised the number of fatalities caused by heavy traffic in Karachi to 195 so far this year.
The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities, while the injured was also moved there for medical treatment.
