Kingston: Andre Russell, the explosive West Indies all-rounder, has announced his retirement from international cricket.
The dynamic player will bow out after featuring in two matches of the upcoming five-match T20 International series against Australia, scheduled to be played in the West Indies from July 20 to 28.
Russell is set to play his final international game on July 22 at his home ground, Sabina Park in Jamaica.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) released a heartfelt statement regarding his retirement thanking him for his 15 years of dedicated service. "For 15 years, you played for the glory of West Indies with heart and passion. Thank you," the statement read.
The 37-year-old all-rounder has represented the West Indies in one Test, 56 One-Day Internationals, and 84 T20 Internationals. A vital component of the West Indies squad, Russell was part of both the 2012 and 2016 T20 World Cup-winning teams. Since 2019, Russell has exclusively focused on the T20 format.
His retirement comes a year ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, marking the end of an illustrious international career for one of cricket's most captivating entertainers.
