Egyptian music icon Hany Shaker, revered across the Arab world as the “Prince of Arab Singing,” has passed away at the age of 74 bringing an end to a remarkable musical journey that spanned decades.
According to reports Shaker breathed his last on May 3 in Paris where he had been undergoing treatment for a serious and prolonged illness. His health had been in a fragile state for some time as he received advanced medical care in the French capital.
He was being treated for a critical condition involving internal bleeding in the colon along with severe respiratory complications. His condition required intensive intervention, including transfusions and continuous specialist monitoring.
Although there were brief moments of stability that raised hopes for recovery his condition took a sudden and irreversible turn in recent days. He was moved to intensive care, where medical teams fought to stabilise him. However he ultimately succumbed to respiratory failure.
Born on December 21, 1952, Hany Shaker stood as one of the most influential and enduring voices in modern Arabic music. Over a distinguished career, he earned widespread acclaim not only as a vocalist but also as a composer and actor, becoming a defining figure of the golden era of Arab music.
His musical legacy includes a collection of timeless hits that continue to resonate with audiences across generations. Some of his most celebrated songs include Lessa Bitessalli, Law Betheb, Ya Retny, Bekol El Omr, Asaheb Min, and Bethebeih.
His passing marks a profound loss for the Arab music industry, as fans and fellow artists mourn the silencing of a voice that helped shape an entire musical era and left behind an enduring cultural legacy.
