The Punjab Government is planning to introduce two new metro train services, the Blue Line and Purple Line, in Lahore to improve transportation. This follows the success of the Orange Line Metro Train.
The government announced these big projects, which will cost about Rs14.5 trillion, on Saturday, showing a major investment in transportation in the province.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has proposed both the Blue and Purple Line Train Projects and is seeking approval from the Punjab government to start them. Once approved, they will begin preparing documents for the projects, known as PC-1, to plan and execute them.
Official documents show that Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, and her Cabinet were briefed about the cost and planning of these projects. The Purple Line Metro Train, estimated at around 577 billion rupees, will run for 16 kilometers, connecting the airport to Bhati Chowk, with 16 stations. It's expected to serve about 250,000 passengers daily.
The Blue Line Train Project is estimated to cost about 872 billion rupees, making it one of the biggest projects in the area. It will run for 27 kilometers from Valencia Town to Babu Sabu Interchange, with 28 stations. It's expected to carry about 400,000 passengers daily, easing congestion in Lahore and improving connectivity.
These projects show the Punjab Government's commitment to improving urban transportation and the quality of life for residents. By expanding the metro train network, they aim to provide efficient, affordable, and sustainable public transportation options while boosting economic growth in the region.
