WASHINGTON: A high-stakes security scare has shaken Washington after US authorities uncovered an alleged multi-layered plot targeting the White House during a UFC event attended by President Donald Trump.
The incident has led to two more arrests and expanded an already serious federal investigation.
According to the US Justice Department, two additional suspects have been arrested in Washington state and Missouri in connection with a conspiracy that officials say involved plans to deploy explosive-laden drones over the White House South Lawn, followed by sniper attacks on fleeing crowds and “high-value targets.” Both suspects face charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
The newly arrested individuals, identified as William Falkner and Jordan Rincker, are alleged to have played technical support roles in the plot.
Falkner reportedly had experience with drone systems and is accused of discussing how to arm and operate explosive-equipped drones for the attack, while Rincker is accused of agreeing to manufacture drone components.

The arrests build on charges announced on June 16 against five other suspects, aged 19 to 32, who were detained across Ohio, California, Missouri, and Nebraska.
Officials say the group’s plan reflected a coordinated threat involving the use of advanced drone technology and tactical violence.
The alleged plot was linked to the “UFC Freedom 250” event, held in a temporary arena called “The Claw” on the White House South Lawn, where around 4,000 attendees including President Trump watched the fights ringside. The event was part of early celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of US independence.
The case has triggered renewed debate over security at high-profile government venues and criticism of the unprecedented decision to host a mixed martial arts event at the White House, which detractors have called a break from presidential tradition.
Trump, who has faced previous assassination attempts in recent years including one earlier in April, was not harmed in the incident. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and further arrests may follow as they probe the wider network behind the alleged conspiracy.
