Former Spy Claims Discovery of Amelia Earhart's Plane

United States Air Force intelligence officer Tony Romeo has asserted that he may have located the long-lost wreckage of pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart's plane in the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Utilizing sonar data obtained from a deep-sea drone, Romeo plans to spearhead a mission later this year or in the coming one to confirm the discovery that eluded a massive US search back in 1937.

"She's America's most famous missing person, right? As long as she's missing, there's always going to be somebody out there searching," expressed Romeo. "If we can help bring closure to this story and bring Amelia home, we'd be super excited."

Amelia Earhart, who in 1932 became the first woman and second person to fly solo and nonstop across the Atlantic, vanished with navigator Fred Noonan while attempting to circumnavigate the globe in 1937. The mysterious disappearance has fueled decades of speculation and various search efforts.

Romeo, now the CEO of Deep Sea Vision, believes the wreckage lies over 5,000 meters beneath the ocean's surface, approximately 160 km from Howland Island, situated halfway between Hawaii and Australia. Blurry sonar images captured by the drone during a 100-day search by Deep Sea Vision's 16-member crew at the end of the previous year seem to reveal a plane-like shape on the flat, sandy ocean floor.

According to Romeo, the images suggest a plane resembling Earhart's Lockheed Model 10-E Electra, with its distinctive twin vertical stabilizers on the tail. He hypothesizes that Earhart, running out of fuel, executed a water landing, causing the plane to sink to the ocean floor, where it remained unaffected by light currents.

"The first step is to confirm it," Romeo stated. "The next step would be, if it's possible, to raise it to the surface and restore it." However, he cautioned that such a process could take years.

This potential breakthrough in the decades-old mystery surrounding Amelia Earhart's disappearance has ignited renewed interest and anticipation among historians, aviation enthusiasts, and the general public. The prospect of bringing closure to one of the greatest aviation mysteries in history looms large as Tony Romeo prepares to embark on this mission to unearth the truth from the depths of the Pacific Ocean.
