The world’s first privately owned space science satellite dedicated to exploring the deep mysteries of the universe has been successfully launched into orbit.
UK-based company Blue Skies Space confirmed that the satellite was sent into space on Friday from California aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.
According to the company, the microwave-sized satellite, named Mau, is equipped with an advanced microscopic instrument designed to observe distant exoplanets and other celestial bodies hidden deep within space.
The data collected by Mau will be shared with research institutions that are part of Blue Skies Space’s subscription-based research network, including Boston University and Columbia University.
Chief Scientist of Blue Skies Space, Giovanna Tinetti, stated that Mau will open a new chapter in astronomical research, unlocking information that was previously beyond scientific reach.
