China has revealed draft guidelines aimed at upgrading its data infrastructure, including plans to enhance its 5G network to the 5G-A standard and promote research, development, and innovation in 6G technologies.
The guidelines, released by the National Data Bureau, outline strategies for balancing the deployment of international communication gateways across China's eastern, central, and western regions. The country also aims to expand international submarine and land cable information channels and establish a satellite internet network integrating both space and ground facilities.
China emphasizes facilitating large-scale, low-cost, and secure data flow while encouraging the development of emerging technologies like blockchain and privacy-preserving computing. These advancements are expected to provide efficient, reliable, and low-cost data delivery for both centralized and decentralized transactions.
The document also highlights efforts to optimize computing resources, accelerate the green development of computing power, and improve network coordination, including general-purpose, intelligent, and supercomputing resources.
A key feature of the 5G-A network is its superior speed, latency, connection scale, and energy efficiency compared to the current 5G. With a peak data rate of 10 gigabits per second for downloads and 1 gigabit per second for uploads, it promises millisecond-level latency and cost-effective connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Cities like Beijing and Shanghai have already begun offering 5G-A services in certain districts, marking a significant step toward China's technological advancement.
