Apple appears to be phasing out its Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter. In many countries, the adapter is listed as "sold out" on Apple’s online store, signalling the company may not restock it once current supplies are gone.
The Lightning to 3.5mm adapter debuted in 2016 alongside the iPhone 7, the first iPhone without a headphone jack. Initially bundled with new iPhones, Apple eventually stopped including it and began selling it separately. Now, the adapter is only available in select countries like India, France, and parts of Scandinavia, while it’s sold out in major markets like the US.
Lightning’s End Is Near
This move aligns with Apple’s shift away from Lightning connectors. The recent launch of USB-C-equipped Mac accessories and the upcoming iPhone SE 4 with a USB-C port highlight Apple’s transition. Currently, the only Apple devices still using Lightning are the iPhone 14 series and the older iPhone SE models.For users of newer iPhones with USB-C ports, Apple offers a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter for $9. However, iPhone users with Lightning connectors may need to consider third-party alternatives or switch to wireless headphones.
