In a rain-affected fixture at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval in Malaysia on Wednesday, Pakistan narrowly fell 13 runs short in their final ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Group B match against Ireland.
With this loss, Pakistan finished fourth in Group B and will face Samoa in the fourth-place playoff on Friday, 24 January, at the same venue.
From Group B, Ireland, England, and the USA have advanced to the Super Six stage of the tournament.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Ireland posted a competitive total of 69-5 in the allotted nine overs. Player of the match Alice Walsh led the charge with a 19-ball 31, striking five boundaries. Walsh’s opening partner, Freya Sargent, contributed 11 runs off 10 balls, while Annabel Squires and Abbi Harrison added 13 not out and 10 runs, respectively.
For Pakistan, Memoona Khalid impressed with two wickets in her single over. Following a rain delay, Pakistan’s target was adjusted to 73 runs in nine overs as per the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) Method.
Pakistan started strong, reaching 24 without loss in 2.1 overs, but a series of regular dismissals halted their progress, leaving them at 59-7 at the end. Captain Komal Khan top-scored with 12 runs off 12 balls, including a boundary.
Ireland’s Ellie McGee shone with the ball, taking two wickets in her two overs while conceding just 13 runs.
With the loss, Pakistan’s journey in the tournament ends, while Ireland progresses to the next stage.
