Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf has officially announced his resignation from his position as a national team selector. He attributed his decision to personal reasons and appreciated the chance to contribute to Pakistan cricket.
In a statement, Yousuf said, "I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team for 'personal reasons'. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket," he wrote in a post on X.
Yousuf also expressed his confidence in the current generation of Pakistani players, stating, "I have great faith in the talent and determination of our players and wish the team continued success in their pursuit of excellence."
The former cricket legend, who played 90 Test matches, 288 ODIs, and three T20Is for Pakistan during his remarkable career, was appointed a national selector in March 2024. He was pivotal in selecting Pakistan's squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Yousuf will now focus on other important duties within the organization.
“The PCB expresses its sincere gratitude to Mohammad Yousuf for his invaluable contributions during his tenure as a selection committee member. Yousuf will continue to play a pivotal role at the PCB, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience as the batting coach at the High Performance Centre.”
Yousuf served as the head coach of Pakistan's U19 team, which secured third place in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 held in South Africa.
Currently, Pakistan sits eighth in the standings of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC), with 16 points from winning only two out of seven matches. Masood, who took over the captaincy from Babar Azam last year, has yet to secure a victory in the five Tests he has led.
