LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has emphasized the need for equal terms in cricket relations with India, stating that it is unacceptable for Pakistan to play in India while India avoids playing in Pakistan.
Speaking to the media at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, Mohsin Naqvi expressed optimism about hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. He assured that Pakistan will represent its best interests at the ICC meetings and will not compromise for financial incentives.
“Our communication with the ICC is ongoing, and I am personally in touch with the ICC Chairman. I promise the nation that we will not disappoint and will ensure decisions are made for Pakistan’s benefit,” Naqvi said. He added that the government will review any significant decision.
Regarding India's role in cricket, he mentioned that Jay Shah would assume charge as ICC Chairman on December 5, expressing hope that he would work for the betterment of the sport. Naqvi invited Indian officials to visit Pakistan to witness the country’s excellent cricket facilities, emphasizing that all decisions in cricket should be made on an equal footing.
Naqvi also provided an update on stadium renovations, highlighting that construction work started on October 10 and is expected to be completed by December 20-25. This would increase the seating capacity of Gaddafi Stadium from 34,000 to 40,000.
He acknowledged delays in work at the Rawalpindi Stadium, suggesting that a new stadium could have been built without the one-and-a-half-month delay.
The PCB Chairman's remarks underline Pakistan's commitment to ensuring fairness in cricket and enhancing its infrastructure for the future.
