The Pakistan cricket team has been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during the Cape Town Test against South Africa.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed a penalty of 25% of the match fee and docked five points from Pakistan’s World Test Championship (WTC) tally after the team fell five overs short of the required rate.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the charges and admitted the team's shortcoming in meeting the over rate target.
The Cape Town Test ended in disappointment for Pakistan, as they suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat to South Africa. This result further dented their position in the WTC standings.
Currently, Pakistan is placed eighth on the WTC table with a PCT (percentage of points) of 24.31, barely ahead of West Indies, who are at the bottom with 24.24 PCT. The penalty adds to Pakistan’s challenges as they aim to improve their standing in the ongoing championship.
