KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Monday said that bandits in the katcha area will either surrender or be eliminated within the next six months.
Speaking to the media, Lanjar was asked how many dacoits would be affected by the current flooding in the katcha belt. He replied, “Bandits don’t come with registration numbers, so it’s impossible to say exactly how many will be hit by the floods.”
The minister said most of these gangs are active in the Sukkur division. “It doesn’t take much for someone to turn into a bandit. Social problems and hardships often push people into crime,” he added.
According to Lanjar, there may be around 400 or more criminals in the katcha area. He explained that residents of the region, whether criminals or peaceful citizens, usually don’t leave their homes. “It’s a misconception that floodwaters will force them out,” he said.
Reiterating the government’s resolve, the minister assured that the dacoits’ days are numbered. “I guarantee you, in six months, these bandits will either be killed or they will lay down their arms,” Lanjar declared.
