Rain-wind/thunderstorms are anticipated in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night and Monday.
Heat waves are expected to develop in the country, with day temperatures in Sindh and Punjab rising 4 to 6°C above normal from May 21 to May 23, and 6 to 8°C above normal from May 23 to May 27. Day temperatures in Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Balochistan are likely to remain 4 to 6°C above normal from May 21 to May 27.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), a shallow westerly wave is currently over the upper parts of Pakistan and is expected to persist for the next 24 hours.
Under these conditions, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms is expected at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, upper Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir on Sunday evening/night. Hot and dry weather is expected in most areas, with very hot conditions and windstorm-dust raising winds in central and southern parts of the country.
On Monday, hot and dry weather will prevail in most parts of Pakistan. Very hot weather with windstorm-dust raising winds is expected in central and southern regions. However, partly cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms is forecasted at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby hilly areas.
In Islamabad, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 37-39°C on Monday and 38-40°C on Tuesday.
In Rawalpindi, maximum temperatures are forecasted to be between 37-39°C on Monday and 39-41°C on Tuesday.
Over the past 24 hours, hot and dry weather has prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country, with very hot conditions in southern and central regions. However, rain-wind/thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
