The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that Lahore and most districts of Punjab will experience mild temperatures and dry weather.
In Lahore and surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy, with intermittent sun and cloud cover. There is a 10% chance of rain in the city, according to the PMD.
For most parts of Punjab, the PMD forecasted dry weather with no significant chances of rainfall. Lahore’s minimum temperature has been recorded at 10°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 25°C.
Meanwhile, light rain and snowfall are expected in the hill stations of Murree, Galyat, and surrounding areas under cloudy skies.
Authorities have also announced that the snowfall emergency season in Murree will end on February 28 following an unusually dry winter, which caused significant economic losses for tourism-dependent businesses.
Traders and shopkeepers from Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, and local markets faced losses worth millions due to the lack of snowfall. The absence of snow prevented families and children from visiting, leading to a poor season for local businesses, temporary vendors, and tourism services.
Murree’s winter season typically runs from December 20 to February 15, but minimal snowfall this year disrupted tourism. To account for potential late snowfall, authorities extended the snowfall emergency to February 28. However, with Ramazan approaching, the winter tourism season is effectively over.
Once the emergency ends, extra officials and personnel deployed in Murree will return to Rawalpindi, and 19 special facilitation centers will be closed.
The dry winter has also affected Murree’s economy, lowered underground water levels, and reduced dam reserves in the Rawalpindi division. For the first time in years, Murree experienced no traffic congestion, as the lack of snowfall discouraged tourists from visiting.
