Residents of Karachi enjoyed a break from the intense heat on Thursday as brief showers, strong winds, and hailstorms swept through various parts of the city, creating a more pleasant atmosphere.
Earlier in the day, Karachi was enduring scorching temperatures when dark clouds moved in, bringing rain and hail to some areas.
Regions that experienced windy and rainy weather included Malir, North Karachi, Bufferzone, Gulshan-e-Hadid, Gulistan-e-Johar, and Shah Faisal. Other areas like Steel Town, Gulshan-e-Maymar, and Port Qasim also received rain, with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 kilometers per hour around the airport and nearby regions.
Hailstorms were reported in Johar Block 1, Safoora, and surrounding locations. Following the rain, electricity supply was disrupted in several areas, including Abul Hassan Isfahani Road, Scheme 33, North Karachi, Malir, Model Colony, Gulshan-e-Hadid, and Ahsanabad, affecting over 150 feeders.
The highest rainfall recorded was 30.5 mm at University Road, while Jinnah Terminal saw 1 mm and Old Airport received 6.2 mm. K-Electric announced that electricity would be temporarily cut in some areas as a safety precaution.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz noted that cloud formation was caused by the heat, potentially affecting other parts of Karachi for about half an hour, particularly in the north and northeast. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicated that Karachi's weather is expected to remain hot for the next four to five days, with temperatures predicted to rise to between 38°C and 40°C.
