The Supreme Court (SC) disposed of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on the basis of withdrawing its contempt petition against the Election Commission on the issue of not getting a level playing field.
A three-member bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice (CJ) Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa heard the PTI’s contempt petition against the Election Commission.
During the hearing, PTI lawyer Latif Khosa said that we are withdrawing the contempt petition against the Election Commission because, for the survival of democracy, we would like to go to the people’s court.
Lateef Khosa further added that I have received instructions to withdraw the petition. Due to your January 13 decision, our more than 230 seats have been taken away, and we came to your court for a level playing field. However, on January 13 night at 11:30 PM, a decision was announced in which PTI was totally destroyed. Now, what can we expect that we will get a level playing field?
Lateef Khosa added that you can issue instructions; we no longer wanted to fight this case in your court, to which the CJ replied that it was up to you whether to accept our verdict or not, on which Lateef Khosa said you have snatched PTI’s field totally; the Election Commission only took away the election symbol; one party was being ousted from parliament and imposed restrictions; all candidates of PTI will fight independent elections, and they will become victims of confusion.
Justice Musrat Hilali inquired, Would you think that elections are not transparent? For which Lateef Khosa replied, elections are completely unfair; we gave blood and sacrifices for the judiciary.
Speaking to Lateef Khosa, the chief justice said that now that you allow us to speak, it is not appropriate to talk about other cases. In this case, do not throw the debris of the Supreme Court’s decisions on us.
The PTI lawyer said that the party we allied with, the leader was picked up, and a press conference was held. Preparations are being made to file a case against us even for the unification. Due to your decision, we were thrown out of parliamentary politics. After your decision, the people of PTI will fight elections independently.
Speaking to CJ, the PTI lawyer said among the candidates of PTI, someone was given a kitchenware pot, someone was handed over glass, you have the powers under Article 187 of the Constitution, you can give orders, and we would not like to fight this case in your court.
