Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted that adopting digital infrastructure, embracing digitization, and promoting digital activities alongside exports of digital services can help create a framework to attract foreign direct investment (FDI).
Calling it a major milestone in fostering an investor-friendly environment, the Prime Minister welcomed Pakistan’s inclusion in the joint Digital Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Initiative by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO).
In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan is the first country to adopt the Digital FDI Initiative under the WEF framework.
The premier explained that the initiative’s first project focuses on identifying key targets to advance digital growth. This includes developing digital infrastructure, enhancing digitization, and promoting the export of digital services, all of which aim to incentivize foreign investment.
“Pakistan is progressing towards building a comprehensive digital economy, which marks a significant step towards sustainable development and prosperity,” he remarked, reaffirming the government’s commitment to economic growth.
The initiative, he added, will also play a vital role in creating an investor-friendly environment in Pakistan, contributing to the country’s long-term economic goals.
