ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has ordered an immediate inquiry into the reduction of the private Hajj quota, which has left thousands of Pakistani pilgrims unable to perform Hajj in 2025, News reported.
The premier has formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter and identify those responsible for failing to obtain the private Hajj quota on time, according to details.
The committee, headed by the Secretary of the Cabinet Division, includes the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Federal Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The committee must submit its report within three days, outlining the reasons for the government's failure to secure the private Hajj quota and identifying those responsible for the lapse.
The government has asked the Ministry of Religious Affairs to explain its failure to secure the private Hajj quota on time, which left thousands of Pakistani pilgrims in limbo.
Under the 2025 Hajj agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, 179,210 Pakistani pilgrims will perform Hajj this year. The agreement ensures that Pakistani pilgrims receive the best possible facilities, including special accommodation in Mina at reduced rates.
To make the Hajj journey more accessible, easier, and comfortable, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has launched a short Hajj program of 20 to 25 days, continuing last year’s initiative.
Pilgrims can select their accommodation in Madina for a stay of four to eight days. Authorities will provide each pilgrim with a specially designed bag featuring the Pakistani flag, a QR code for identification, and relevant information.
