The prime minister ordered authorities to crack down on sugar hoarding and profiteers and submit a comprehensive report. He also instructed officials to closely monitor sugar consumption and supply to ensure transparency and accountability.
PM Shehbaz Sharif assured that the country has a sufficient sugar supply and warned against fabricating a false crisis. He emphasized that profiteering mafias would not be allowed to exploit citizens, especially during Ramadan.
PM Shehbaz Sharif instructed the chief secretaries of all four provinces to ensure sugar availability at government-fixed prices across Pakistan.
Federal ministers Azam Nazir Tarar, Rana Tanveer, Ahsan Iqbal, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, along with Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and other senior officials, attended the meeting.
Market sources reported that sugar prices have surged by Rs25 per kilogram in several parts of Pakistan over the past two days.
The retail price of sugar, which recently stood at Rs155 per kg, has now reached a record Rs180 per kg. In Quetta, wholesalers are selling sugar at Rs175 per kg.
Various cities across Pakistan have experienced sharp hikes in sugar prices during Ramadan, following a similar trend.
