India has released more water into the Sutlej River, raising fears of a high-level flood in Punjab.
According to the Indian High Commission, water discharge has created a dangerous situation at two points on the Sutlej River, and the flood wave is now advancing towards Sindh, where it is expected to enter within a few hours.
Following the worsening situation in Jalalpur Pirwala, the Pakistan Army has been deployed to assist in relief and rescue operations. The Ministry of Water Resources has issued an emergency alert, instructing all concerned departments to remain vigilant.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also warned that the floodwaters at Harike and Ferozepur will severely affect low-lying areas. Local administrations have been directed to activate early warning systems and ensure timely evacuation and safety measures for residents.

According to PDMA, flooding across Punjab has already impacted over 4,100 villages and more than 4.1 million people, while 56 lives have been lost since August 26.
Deputy Commissioner Multan, Waseem Hamid Sandhu, confirmed that contingency plans are in place to deal with possible flood waves.
Meanwhile, water levels at Head Muhammadwala and Shershah embankments on the Chenab River have temporarily decreased, but the incoming flow of 543,000 cusecs from Head Trimmu is expected to reach Multan within 36 hours, which could once again raise water levels and put flood protection embankments under pressure.
