The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has asked Pakistan to provide detailed information about the tax exemptions given in different sectors. The ongoing talks between Pakistan and the IMF will continue into the second week.
According to sources, the IMF has requested a full briefing on the tax reliefs granted by the government. Officials from the Ministry of Finance will brief the IMF on the export and import of sugar and its impact on the economy.
The IMF delegation will also receive updates on the Reko Diq project, including its macroeconomic effects and financing details. Pakistan will share information about both local and foreign investments in the project.
Sources said the IMF is particularly interested in understanding the tax exemptions related to Reko Diq, royalties, and the fiscal risks linked to project guarantees. The meeting will also assess how these exemptions affect overall tax revenue.
Reports suggest that the IMF has decided to closely examine the financial impact of tax reliefs provided for the Reko Diq project.
