A Withholding Tax Certificate in Pakistan is an important document that shows tax deductions made at the source. It acts as proof that tax has been withheld on income like salaries, contracts, or services, and it can be used when filing tax returns with the Federal Board of Revenue or when claiming tax credits.
According to the FBR, if someone deducts income tax from payments made to you, section 164 of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 says that the withholding agent must give you a certificate showing the amount collected as tax.
The FBR also says that this Withholding Tax Certificate must be attached to your income tax return to prove you have paid tax. You can get your withholding tax certificates from the authorities that deducted the tax, like your employer or your bank.
