A comprehensive traffic plan has been put in place for the upcoming general elections in Lahore, according to City Traffic Officer Amara Athar. On polling day, parking will be arranged at least 200 yards away from sensitive and busy roads leading to polling stations. District police and other law enforcement agencies will provide full cooperation to ensure a peaceful event.
CTO Amara Athar stated that all officers, from constables to the CTO, will be present to assist and guide citizens. A total of 320 A-category and 1248 B-category polling stations will be under duty, supervised by SPs Sohail Fazil, Shehzad Khan, and Malik Ikram.
Athar provided details on resource deployment, including 12 DSPs, 500 senior wardens, over 3,000 wardens, and 136 lady wardens collaborating with district police on polling day. Additionally, 20 tow trucks and 4 breakdown vehicles will be deployed in shifts to ensure smooth traffic management.
The general elections are scheduled for February 8, marking the conclusion of the election campaign today. The Election Commission has delivered over 26 crore ballot papers, requiring the original ID card for voting. Voting with expired ID cards is also permitted.
In Balochistan, internet services will be closed at sensitive polling stations, as announced by the Election Commission spokesperson. Despite challenges like adverse weather conditions, the commission successfully completed the ballot paper delivery process through land and air. Provincial-level plans for security, transportation, communication, and emergencies are in place to ensure a smooth electoral process.
