ISLAMABAD: The European journal Eurasia Review has identified terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan as a serious threat to Pakistan and the wider region.
According to the report, Russia also faces significant security risks from militant groups in Afghanistan, with extremist factions expanding activities into Central Asian countries bordering Afghanistan. The report emphasized that groups including ISIS-Khorasan are continuously strengthening in the region.
Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, expressed deep concern over ISIS-K activities in Afghanistan, stating that the Taliban’s counter-terrorism measures remain insufficient. Militant groups are reportedly increasing tension within Afghanistan and presenting themselves as alternative power structures.
Russian Security Council Secretary for Afghanistan, Sergei Shoigu, warned of the risk of terrorists infiltrating neighboring countries and noted that Afghan terrorist groups are receiving external funding.
Pakistan has consistently demanded that the Afghan Taliban prevent cross-border incursions and terrorist activities from Afghanistan into Pakistan. While Pakistan has supported regional efforts to resolve these issues, the Afghan Taliban have so far refused to provide written guarantees on preventing such incursions.
