ISLAMABAD: The government will officially launch the Economic Survey of Pakistan for the fiscal year 2024–25 on Monday (today), presenting its assessment of the national economy ahead of the budget.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Finance on Sunday, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the survey.
The government uses the Economic Survey as a vital document ahead of the annual federal budget, providing detailed insights into the country’s socio-economic performance during the outgoing fiscal year.
The Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) recorded Pakistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate at 2.7 percent for the fiscal year 2024–25, and the National Economic Council (NEC) endorsed this recommendation.
The government has set the GDP growth target at 4.2 percent for the next fiscal year. The National Economic Council (NEC) noted that remittances rose sharply by 30.9 percent from July 2024 to April 2025, and for the first time, the current account balance remained in surplus during this period.
The survey will also highlight improvements in fiscal indicators. It shows that the government reduced the fiscal deficit to 2.6 percent of GDP and recorded a primary balance surplus of 3 percent of GDP, reflecting a more disciplined fiscal approach.
Improved economic fundamentals and proactive monetary policy measures enabled the government to gradually reduce the policy interest rate to 11 percent. Meanwhile, banks disbursed Rs. 681 billion in loans to the private sector between July 2024 and May 2025, marking significant credit growth.
The NEC emphasized that both the federal and provincial governments coordinated their efforts to achieve recent signs of economic stabilization. It stated that the country has now entered a path of economic recovery and growth.
The government credited the agriculture sector for playing a crucial role in strengthening national reserves and driving economic expansion. Officials are currently formulating a comprehensive strategy to ensure steady and sustainable growth in agricultural productivity in the coming years.
Authorities approved a total outlay of Rs. 3,483 billion for the Annual National Development Programme (ANDP) for 2024–25. The federal government allocated Rs. 1,100 billion for development initiatives, while provincial governments utilized Rs. 2,383 billion for their respective projects.
