A tragic new chapter has emerged in the name of ‘honour’ killings in Rawalpindi. A married woman, Sidra, was reportedly murdered on the orders of a jirga in the Pirwadhai area’s Fauji Colony. Her second husband, Usman, has surrendered to police.
Official documents confirm that Sidra married Usman in Muzaffarabad on July 12. She had even approached the court to seek protection following her marriage.
Sidra had submitted a formal statement to the court affirming her marriage to Usman. A video statement by Usman’s father, Muhammad Ilyas, has also surfaced. In it, he claims, “I solemnized her marriage according to Islamic traditions.”
Killer Led Funeral Prayers, Father Performed Final Rites:
Just four days after the marriage, armed men reportedly stormed their house, threatening them with dire consequences. “They warned us and said they would kill us,” claimed Usman’s family.Two days after they handed Sidra back to her family, they learned through the media that she had been murdered.
According to the family, the jirga was led by a man named Ismatullah, who not only ordered the killing but also offered the funeral prayer. He reportedly bathed the body and wrapped it in plastic before transporting it to the graveyard via rickshaw. A video showing Ismatullah firing a weapon has also gone viral.
Police have included sections related to murder and evidence tampering in the FIR.
Graveyard Receipts Recovered, Body Buried Early Morning:
The police have recovered the tools used to dig the grave and official receipts from the graveyard committee from the suspect, Saifur Rehman.Initially, the case was registered as a kidnapping based on a report filed by Sidra’s husband. However, during the investigation, it was revealed that she had been murdered in the name of honour. Relevant legal charges have since been added.
Sources say that more than eight people have been taken into custody so far, but only three suspects have been presented in court and remanded.
