KARACHI: The Sindh government has confirmed plans to provide more affordable electricity to both residents and industrial consumers in Karachi, Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said in an official statement.
In a statement, he said the Sindh Assembly has given constitutional approval for the establishment of the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA). Recruitment for SEPRA has been completed, and the official notification will be issued later this month.
He stated that Karachi residents will now be able to access affordable electricity, as the province will set its own power tariffs, which will be significantly lower than those charged by K-Electric.
Energy Minister said that STDC's delivery of electricity will not be related to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority(NEPRA) and Sindh will generate electricity ourselves and transmit ourselves under the STDC, which is why the electricity price from STDC will be much lower than that of NEPRA.
Nasir Shah added that Karachi industry and residents will be provided with cheap electricity under SPRA, efforts are made to provide the first transmission of electricity under SPRA to the four -grid.
