Project Freedom paused at Pakistan’s request, Marco Rubio says

'Project Freedom’ could help pave the way for an agreement with Iran

WASHINGTON: U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has confirmed that the US delayed Project Freedom after a request from Pakistan. He explained that Pakistan believed the move could help open the door for a possible agreement with Iran.

Rubio added that the United States chose diplomacy first. He also said that President Donald Trump prefers negotiations and peaceful solutions instead of immediate action.

According to reports, Pakistan told US officials that stopping operations in the Strait of Hormuz could support ongoing talks with Iran.

Therefore, Pakistan pushed for a temporary pause to reduce tensions and encourage dialogue. The US leadership accepted this request and shifted focus toward diplomatic efforts.

Trump’s earlier announcement:

Earlier, Donald Trump announced the temporary suspension of “Project Freedom.” The plan aimed to help stranded ships move safely in the Strait of Hormuz.

He made the announcement on his social platform and said the decision followed requests from Pakistan and other countries. He also said recent US actions against Iran had created progress in talks with Iranian representatives.

Strategic situation in the region:

The US continued to maintain pressure in the Strait of Hormuz. However, officials paused the ship movement operation to review diplomatic progress. Leaders aimed to avoid escalation while talks continued. Both sides focused on maintaining stability in the region during negotiations.

The United States paused “Project Freedom” to support diplomatic efforts with Iran. Pakistan’s request played an important role in this decision. Meanwhile, the US and Iran continue discussions, and leaders expect further progress in the coming weeks.
